Jules Lobgeois est un designer sculpteur qui vit et travaille en Normandie.
Après avoir étudié le design industriel à Paris il se dirige vers la sculpture appliquée à l’objet, il se forme auprès d’un ferronnier puis du designer ébéniste Kaspar Hamacher, et se découvre une attirance pour ces deux matières. Dès lors son travail se focalisera sur la rencontre de ces deux matériaux pour faire cohabiter la part organique du bois et la rigidité du métal dans une liaison poétique.
Le bois qu’il utilise provient d’arbres tombés, qu’il entrepose en attendant le moment opportun pour les travailler. Sa manière de sculpter est spontanée et c’est au contact du bois que les formes se définissent dans un aller-retour permanent entre la matière et ses outils, à la recherche d’une alliance entre légerté et densité.
Jules Lobgeois is a French designer and sculptor who lives and works in Normandy.
After studying industrial design in Paris, he turned his attention to sculpture applied to objects; he trained first with a metalworker and then with the designer and sculptor Kaspar Hamacher, and discovered a fascination for both materials. From then on, his work has focused on bringing these two materials together, combining the organic quality of wood with the rigidity of metal in a poetic union.
The wood he uses comes from fallen trees, which he stores away until the appropriate moment arrives to work with them. His approach to sculpting is spontaneous; it is through contact with the wood that the forms take shape, in a constant dialogue between the material and his tools, as he searches for a balance between lightness and density.
